About Me

Hello friend or stranger!

My name is Vanessa and I’ve been living in Shanghai, China since August 2009! I have been married to the love of my life since Aug 2005 and have two daughters, Eve Scarlett and Ivy Jade.

One reason I have been attracted to living in China was because of the Chinese language. The language always seemed very useful and interesting linguistics-wise. I’ve been able to speak, read, and write everyday in Chinese more easily living here and I continue to progress  quickly everyday.

Currently I teach Kindergarten at an international school here in Shanghai. Some of my students are from the U.S., Canada, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Australia, Slovakia, Sweden, Japan, as well as from China. I feel very blessed to teach to such a diverse group of 5-6 year olds. They make my life better in so many ways and they are the sweetest little things!

I hope one day to return to the U.S. and teach a Chinese Submersion class in Kindergarten. Until then, I continue to enjoy living in China, speaking Chinese and hearing my own daughter use the language so naturally.

Among my interests, I love hotpot, anything Studio Ghibli, zombie flicks, shopping on taobao, collecting children’s books, and finding lesson ideas on pinterest.
